Alpilles Tour

Van Gogh Tour in Provence

Explore iconic sites from Van Gogh’s life!

Morning

Start your day with a visit to the Van Gogh’s foundation in Avignon, where you’ll see his only painting on display in all of Provence. Then, we’ll head to Arles to retrace the steps of Vincent Van Gogh, including the famous Yellow House he rented with Paul Gauguin. We’ll visit the locations where he created masterpieces like “Starry Night Over the Rhône,” “Café Terrace at Night,” “Langlois Bridge,” “The Roman Arena,” “Trinquetaille Bridge,” “The Old Mill,” “The Public Garden,” and “Les Alyscamps.” We’ll also stop at the Hôtel-Dieu, the hospital where Van Gogh stayed after cutting off a portion of his earlobe.

Afternoon

We’ll drive to Saint-Paul de Mausole, the asylum just outside Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where Van Gogh spent the last year of his life. You’ll see a recreation of his room at the asylum, where he received medical treatment. From there, we’ll also view the Alpilles mountains, the olive trees, and the wheat fields, all immortalized in his paintings. During his year of confinement, Van Gogh produced 150 paintings, many of which are now considered masterpieces. In Saint-Rémy, I’ll take you to the spots where he painted “The Starry Night,” “The Road Menders,” and his famous self-portrait. After leaving the hospital, Van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, where Dr. Gachet, a collector and friend of many Impressionist painters, agreed to oversee his care. In just two months there, Van Gogh created more than seventy paintings in a flurry of intense productivity.
